Well, being an East Coast Canadian myself, this seems like an appropriate post from me ;). I was first introduced to this song when a friend of mine showed me the MV of it on youtube. It’s fun, cute, pop-ish rock - and I instantly fell in love with it!! So I wanted to spread this song and this artist to the rest of the world by posting it here. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!!

Download Joel Plaskett - Fashionable People

I am hoping to post more Canadian bands and artists here in the future. I’ll show the world that Canadian music doesn’t just consist of Avril Lavigne and Nickelback - mwa hahaha!! Lolz!!

Crazy Ary, signing off!

ps. to Lazaro - For some reason I can’t leave comments on posts like in the old version of S.S. :\ So I’ll say this here: I’m so glad you liked the Emilie Simon post!! I’m glad I’m able to return the favour of giving great music!! Thanks for adding the user option on S.S. so I could do so!! :3

it’s been a long time since I’ve updated but a lot has been going on. First, my pc got fixed and it’s all new! I love it I want to hug it xD. It doesn’t make airplanes sounds and it doesn’t take 20 min to open a screen. And!! It has a voice operator! I love it! It’s like A.I and she says things when I open certain programs or when I try to do stuff that I shouldn’t. It’s an add-on or something that my neighbor gave me (n.n)/) i’m so happy, but now, music..

Rachael Yamagata… a Yonsei or fourth-generation Japanese American on her father’s side and of Italian and German ancestry on her mother’s side. (Yonsei; The generation of people born in North America, Latin America, Hawaii, or any country outside of Japan to at least one Sansei parent)
When I heard her song “Elephants” I was playing Burnout with Shin and it got stuck in my head, though the song wasn’t released just yet, I would have to wait until october (and I had to wait for several months! I hate that). The song itself is a beautiful ballad, though it’s very melancholic, dark and vulnerable. The Piano piece is just beautiful and I don’t know what to say because no words can describe this song and the meaning it has for me.
The lyrics are beautiful and are full of symbolism, the song it self has a beautiful melody. Here are some bits of the lyrics that really connected to me that last couple of weeks… A lot has happened and when I was at loss of words this just reminded me how to say it exactly..
Here are the lyrics so you can see for your self..

Rachael Yamagata - Elephants (download)

If the elephants have past lives yet all destined to always remember
It’s no wonder how they scream
Like you and I they must have some temper

And I am dreaming of them on the planes
Dirtying up their beds
Watching for some sign of rain to cool their hot heads

And how dare that you send me that card when I am doing all that I can do
You are forcing me to remember when all I want is to just forget you

If the tiger shall protect her young then tell me how did you slip by
All my instincts have failed me for once
I must have somehow slept the whole night

And I am dreaming of them with their kill
Tearing it all apart
Blood dripping from their lips and teeth sinking into heart

And how dare that you say you’ll call
When you know I need some peace of mind
If you have to take sides with the animals
Won’t you do it with one who is kind

And if the hawks in the trees need the dead
If you’re living you don’t stand a chance
For a time though you share the same bed
There are only two ends to this dance

You can flee with your wounds just in time or lie there as he feeds
Watching yourself ripped to shreds and laughing as you bleed

So for those of you falling in love keep it kind
Keep it good
Keep it right
Throw yourself in the midst of danger but keep one eye open at night

“60s 70s 80s” is Namie Amuro’s 33rd solo single under the Avex Trax label. It was released in CD and CD&DVD formats on March 12, 2008, 11 months since her previous single “Funky Town”, and nearly 9 months after her successful album “Play”. This single continues her successful comeback, as it had her highest first week sales since 2000’s NEVER END even at a time when CD single sales are dramatically decreasing. It became her first #1 since 1998’s I Have Never Seen, and her highest selling single since 2000’s NEVER END. “60s 70s 80s” is currently the #8 single of 2008, Namie’s highest yearly chart position in almost 8 years.
“60s 70s 80s” is the 33rd single and the first triple A-Side single released by Amuro Namie, and contains a total of three songs, “NEW LOOK”, “ROCK STEADY”, and “WHAT A FEELING”. Each of these three songs is used in a massive campaign ad for Vidal Sassoon’s latest shampoo and conditioner products. In addition, each song represents a certain time period starting with the 1960’s, then 1970’s, and finally 1980’s.

The first song, “NEW LOOK”, represents the 1960’s and features a sample from The Supremes’s “Baby Love”. Like many of her other single songs, this song is produced by T.Kura and MICHICO. “ROCK STEADY” represents the 1970’s and features a sample from Aretha Franklin’s song “Rock Steady”. It is produced by MICHICO and MURO, whose last working with Namie was during her Suite Chic project. The last song, “WHAT A FEELING” represents the 1980’s and features samples from Irene Cara’s “What a Feeling”, which was used as the theme for the 1983 film Flashdance. Shinichi Ōsawa and michico worked on the production of “WHAT A FEELING”.

01. NEW LOOK
I ADORE this song and I get a picture in my head how I would do the PV with Kunai and Shiroi and other fabulous stuff. This song shares the top position with WHAT A FEELING. I love the beats, the sounds, the synths, the background sounds and Namie’s vocals.. and she says ICECREAM CHOCOLATE.. instant win _0_. And she uses alot of high fashion (the song contains several fashion references too) and it’s funny hearing her sing Internet acronyms like “LOL” and “OMG” when you read the translation you will really laugh

02. ROCK STEADY
The beginning of this song is too funny for me. It reminds me of Txer when she does her bon qui qui act or Ka-son. This is my least favorite song of the single, though I think all three songs are perfectlicous. The chorus is funny too sing along ^.^

03. WHAT A FEELING
I simply love this track! It’s great, it’s fresh, it’s fabulous! They really mixed this song in a great way and I always have to think of Kunai and Shiroi in those Flashdance outfits and just dancing like crazy. The entire song is simply great and it’s one of my favorites. It makes my body move around and it’s just a perfect song for little ol hyper me.

I was searching through some videos on Youtube until I stumbled across this song. It’s a beautiful song with a folk sound but leaning more to the ballad side. Shai was born on July 20, 1984 in Rishon LeZion. He rose to fame through the first season of Kokhav Nolad (”A Star is Born”, an Idol-like series show) where ended as the runner up. The song is often used as a poster song for the IDF and the war against Hezbollah.

Lyrics: English

I walk now in the path of the present
like a child walking into oblivion
my hands are extended
asking for help to continue the journey with you
and on the sides the flowers as though they lost their identity
searching for a ray of light that would help
another small gulp of water
from the wells of wisdom
that will bring them the hope

I will raise my head,
I’ll lift my eyes to the mountains in the distance
and my voice will be heard as a scream,
as a prayer of a human
and my heart will call out
“where will my help come from”

I pass now between new landscapes
the steps are taken so slowly
what is there that is not here
I asked a passer-by
what do you guard in your heart
the city senior whose whole past rests on his back
glances around and looks for his world
when the present is so hard
he doesn’t say a word,
I will raise my head toward tomorrow

I will raise my head…

I really like this song even though I don’t understand a word (only ahava which means Love XD) the only time I listen to a Hebrew song is when someone dies and they sing that funeral song which I actually like for a strange reason. Though I have to admit, the translation of Jewish songs seem to have beautiful meaning.. My grandparents or great grandparents were Jewish (fathers side) and when the civil war began in Spain and Franco took over everyone had to become Catholic (so my fam 2) though they remained Jewish in the household and on the street they were Catholic. We even have a menorah and some other stuff.. My uncle had an medallion past down from his grandpa and eventually gave it to my mother who then gave it too me.
I got this song from an old friend of mine who really loved the song and after my pc crashed and I lost all my music 2 months ago I heard this song today by accident and I had to share it. I also recommend watching the video.
Some info on the singer (though she has beautiful eyes you really have to see it)

Miri Mesika was born on the 3rd of May 1978 in Hertzeliya and als grew up there. As a young kid she loved fine arts. Miri studies since elementary school and during high school how to play the fluit and the guitar, and how to do sculpturing and painting. At her high school she had theater as her major field. After Miri was released from the army service, she went to the the school of arts Rimon where she also met Keren Peles and from then on they became friends. Miri’s studies were focused on theater and singing. Miri discovered at the age of 16 that she loves to do these two things. At Rimon she was noticed by her teachers for her singing skills and one of her teachers, the famous Israeli singer Ricky Gal, told Miri her thoughts of how gifted her singing skills are and how lovely voice is. So Miri continued developing her singing skills too. After graduating from her studies her talent didn’t pass by and she was signed by Hed Artzi, one of the biggest music labels in Israel, for a contract with the agreement that she will release 5 albums under their label. This is a very big amount of albums and a very long contract, which isn’t common in the Israeli music. This contract clearly showed how much faith Hed Artzi had in their young talent.

lyrics: English
I wish the moment would last
I shall never be “like them”..
the memories from school,
the mess in my room.
I want longing,
that won’t let me sleep
that I could not fight
they say “she’s living in the sky, or in the ocean
not like the rest, diving and taking off”

To there, no one will never get close
even if you said you really love me
and that your heart is broken,
that you chose me out of all the others
I still won’t take you there
for you were the one taught me the silence
and I’m still here waiting.

I want long arms
to hug, without having to see
they say “she’s hiding wings
under that big blue coat,
she’s flying and to there she won’t
let you anywhere near
and even if you said you really do love
and you chose her out of all the rest,
out of all the girls on the world
they say don’t you ever trust her
she will always give you back silence
and I’m still waiting here.

I simply adore “The Weepies”, their sound, the songs, the lyrics, just everything about them. I really got into their music through my boyfriend. When we used to work together he would give me a lift home and we would listen to music, though most of the time the one choosing the songs was I but eventually he played his music and he got me into “The Perishers” “M.Craft” and ofcourse, “The Weepies”.
They have a pop-folk-indie sound and it’s perfect for road trips or just to unwind after a long day of work. Here is some background info on the group;

The Weepies are an indie pop-folk band fronted by singer-songwriters Deb Talan and Steve Tannen. Their music has been described as “subtly intoxicating folk-pop”
The two musicians, who were both active in separate singer-songwriter careers, met in 2001 at a show Tannen was playing at Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They quickly found a deep musical bond and began playing together. In 2005, they were signed to Nettwerk Records. Talan and Tannen are married and reside together in Topanga, California. Talan gave birth to a baby boy, Theo Samuel Tannen, on October 7, 2007. The band has received some mainstream attention with their second album, Say I Am You. In February 2006, the album reached #1 on iTunes’ list of most-downloaded folk albums in eight countries. The single “World Spins Madly On” from that album hit #1 on iTunes’ US folk song charts. In 2007, the band collaborated with Mandy Moore, writing and playing on her new album, Wild Hope. The Weepies’ recorded their next album at home, with the aid of fellow musicians and friends; Hideaway was released in April 2008 by Nettwerk Records.
Songs from Say I Am You have been featured on many popular TV shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, Everwood, One Tree Hill, Scrubs, The Riches, How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl, GRΣΣK, Kyle XY, and Dirty Sexy Money, the last of which involved The Weepies into one of the show’s subplots. They have also been featured in the Sex and the City Movie. Other supporting members who have recorded and toured with The Weepies include Meghan Toohey on keyboards and electric guitar.

Review of my songs from “The Weepies”

Take it From Me
This was the first track I heard from the Weepies and also one of my favorite tracks of the album. Though I also heard this track when I was watching Kyle XY (Second Season). I had to laugh because when I heard it in the car the next day I heard it on the show ^.^
Take it From Me is a great way to start the album, the guitars and the voice of the woman really soothes you. I just love the track because it’s kinda sweet and fits perfectly for a laidback morning.

Gotta Have You
This is my favorite song of the album (together with; Nobody Knows Me at All). It’s laidback, bittersweet and the song gives you a relaxed feeling. The vocals are suberb and you will instantly love it not only because it’s that good but also because you can sing along with it (and sometimes it will happen without you knowing it). The track begins with a guitar solo and smoothly other instruments begin to play. This is a perfect track when you just want to unwind or let everything out of your system. Though the best piece of the song are the bridges and the verses

Painting by Chagall
At first I didn’t pay attention to this song but slowly it grew on me and now it’s one of my favorite songs. (lady) sings perfectly in this song, I really love her voice on this album. What keeps me addicted to this song is the vocals and that it just makes you so relaxed. The lyrics are cute and the instruments in the song makes it a little jem that gets caught in your vision by it’s simplistic sound and when you star to get into it you will really love it

Nobody Know me At All
This track is perfect. Download it now! Though the song is short, the message and the lyrics are good and really reflect on me. Again the vocals of (lady) make this song complete. Nobody Knows me at All is a true masterpiece from The Weepies

Not Your Year
When I first heard this song I had to laugh because it was a perfect song for the year 2007. It was a trubelent year and it taught me alot though, many things happend and almost none of it was good. But this song really makes me look back and be happy on the things I have right now. The vocals of (Lady) really are great. The melody really makes the song get stuck in your head. It will also make you sing along eventually

though the entire album is good, these songs are my favorite and I had to write something about them because they really are good and precious to me ^.^. You can download the entire album “Say I Am You” below

We all now Katy and her Kissing Girls fandom, but this song rocks my socks! I love it it’s fresh and addicting! I was working today and kept listening to it all the time because.. I just didn’t want to work and I was drawing and listening to the droning of the chattering madness known as my co-workers. I hate trainings at times because it never seems to be like the real thing. Though.. we can go home early and you have more advantages and the buddy system rocks at times (when your with a hottie)

Hot N Cold owns I kissed a Girl hands down, it’s more addictive and the lyrics own; “You change your mind/ Like a girl changes clothes/ Yeah you, PMS/ Like a bitch/ I would know” xD OWNT! or… “Someone call the doctor/ Got a case of a love bi-polar/ Stuck on a roller coaster/ Can’t get off this ride..” .. I just love it >.> so gonna use against some people..
Please download it and enjoy ^^ the magic of Katy Perry!

Okay, I can’t even begin to describe how awesome Emilie Simon is! She is definitely at the top of my favourite musicians list, and I hope that everyone enjoys her album Vegetal that I present to you! Emilie’s music is first and foremost electronic, but oh, it is also so much more than that! Anyways, to go on about how great she is would take all day, so I’ll get into describing the tracks now. :3

Download album by clicking the link below this sentence:

http://www.4shared.com/file/55693143/7e7973bd/Emilie_Simon-Vegetal.html#firstC

01: Alicia - Beautiful, slow, full of emotion. Sets the mood of the album right away. Starting off slow and quiet, it quickly picks up volume and emotion as it nears its end.

02: Fleur de Saison - This is the most upbeat track on the album. It’s very very catchy and cute! Be sure to watch the MV of this one, too!

03: Le Vieil Amant - Brings us back to more of the softer slower ballads. This track is very soft and almost has a lullaby quality to it. Definately a good song to listen to after a hard day’s work when you’re ready to sit down, read a book, and calm your nerves. :3

04: Sweet Blossom - The very first song I’ve ever heard by Emilie. It totally sucked me in! The violins and background vocals create an air of eerieness, and the lyrics are bittersweet.

05: Opium - This is one of the tracks on the album I don’t pay as much attention to. But don’t let that fool you, it’s still a totally awesome song! It again is one of the softer tracks, in a slow, soothig, lullaby-ish tone.

06: Dame do Lotus - My favourite track on the album!! Seriously, if you only want to keep one track from this album, choose this one! Beautiful, it is also one of the few more upbeat songs on the album. The violins are wonderful in setting an air of elegance to this song. And DO NOT forget to watch the MV of it! Emilie has a way of making her MVs so artistic.

07: Swimming - Another track that has a more eerie tone to it. It starts off slow, quiet, and mysterious, and when the chorus hits - BOOM! Wow, the emotion just all pours out and the song really begins to show it’s true character. Trust me, it a song that starts off small and just grows and grows. My second favourite track :3

08: - In the Lake - Oh, this track is so cute! Such a soft, sweet ballad. I also love the music in this track. It’s so hard to describe electronic music though since I’m so unfamiliar with the instruments used to create it! I’ll be surprised if these descriptions convince anyone to download the album, haha!

09: Rose Hybridge de Thé - More upbeat, and most of the lyrics are spoken in a whisper. I believe that this song was the first single of Emilie’s to be released in the States? That’s if I have my Wikipedia information in order, haha!

10: Never Fall in Love - Again, upbeat. :3 I like the lyrics of this one a lot. It’s about the love between a human and a rose. Sounds bad when I say it, but believe me, listen to this track lots.

11: Annie - Haha, I kept getting this song in my head while at work, when we were drawing backgrounds for an episode of our TV show that had a guest character named Annie the fan! Sweet little ballad. Emilie’s vocals are as sweet as ever.

12: My Old Friend - Seriously, when I first heard this song, it nearly cried! It’s about friends who change and move away from eachother, but in this case the separation was sad and hard to go through. I especially get foggy eyed when she sings the line “Now she’s gone, it snows on my smile today”. I’d like to say it’s a ballad, but it doesn’t really follow the defination of ballad as closely as I would describe one. So I’ll just say it’s indescribably good! (I’m lame)

13: En Cendres - It starts off with a sound sort of like a camp fire. Then the music enters with a bit of eeriness. Emilie’s vocals start off soft, picking up volume at the chorus. A wonderful, slightly eerie but elegant finish to the album!

This is Ary signing out~!

Aah i love Kanye west, he’s talented and i think his arrogance is just funny, so i appreaciate him ^.^ so you can imagine that i was all excited to hear the new single…

So, imagine me like this (\(^0^)/) <- yes, you saw that right, thats a fangirl scream icon
When i finally could check it i went from (\(^0^)/) to -(0.o)- and then (…) THATS how different the new single is, well from the usual Kanye west songs it’s not even comparable to his old songs :S

This song doesn’t even have hip hop influences, he’s not even rapping, it’s all electronic. At first it kinda reminded me of T-Pain, since he uses the same type of effects, but this song is definitely different, it’s obvious Kanye west is trying for something new here, which is good, i think artist should try something different now and then.

I noticed some people don’t really like the song, probably because they’re not used to hear such music from a rapper, but it’s actually quite nice, you just have to get used it, or just forget about the fact that it’s Kanye west

Anyway, i prefer the remixes over the original one, because the original is just too slow, it’s not as catchy as the remixes, so try the first remix cuz that’s the best one out of all the remixes that exsist, and i’m sure these are not all the remixes that are out

Well, I first heard their song Polyrhythm from a close friend of mine ^.^ and she told me the song reminded her of me and that it really suited me, and she was right! I fell in love with it ^.^ and I still have it on my I-Pod. Do you know how much fun it is when your in an overcrowded bus when everyone has a “I hate mornings” attitude and you listen to Perfume? It rocks!
So.. please give them a chance because they are really good and lovely ^.^you will instantly love their voices and the beats, sounds and melody. The songs I really really love are; Polyrhythm, Baby cruising love (I so had to think of “Cruising” you know, like.. cruising..), Chocolate Disco, Macaroni and Game. I really got stuck with those songs so pardon me for not giving it a complete hearing. Though.. I’ve heard all songs those are the songs that really got stuck in my head. Here is some info on the band and how they got started.

Perfume (パフューム) is a female J-Pop and electropop group from Hiroshima, consisting of Ayano Ōmoto, Yuka Kashino, and Ayaka Nishiwaki, that debuted locally in 2001 (Ayano in 2003) and nationally in 2005. They call themselves the “Near Future Technopop Unit”.
Since 2003 Perfume has been produced by Yasutaka Nakata, founder of the group capsule and the contemode label. From 2005 to 2008, Perfume has released six major singles.
Perfume was formed in 2001 and originally consisted of Ayaka “A~chan” Nishiwaki, Yuka “Kashiyuka” Kashino and Yuuka Kawashima. Shortly after the band’s formation, Kawashima left the group to concentrate on her studies and was replaced by Ayano “Nocchi” Ōmoto.
