The Weepies “Say I Am You”

I simply adore “The Weepies”, their sound, the songs, the lyrics, just everything about them. I really got into their music through my boyfriend. When we used to work together he would give me a lift home and we would listen to music, though most of the time the one choosing the songs was I but eventually he played his music and he got me into “The Perishers” “M.Craft” and ofcourse, “The Weepies”.
They have a pop-folk-indie sound and it’s perfect for road trips or just to unwind after a long day of work. Here is some background info on the group;

The Weepies are an indie pop-folk band fronted by singer-songwriters Deb Talan and Steve Tannen. Their music has been described as “subtly intoxicating folk-pop”
The two musicians, who were both active in separate singer-songwriter careers, met in 2001 at a show Tannen was playing at Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They quickly found a deep musical bond and began playing together. In 2005, they were signed to Nettwerk Records. Talan and Tannen are married and reside together in Topanga, California. Talan gave birth to a baby boy, Theo Samuel Tannen, on October 7, 2007. The band has received some mainstream attention with their second album, Say I Am You. In February 2006, the album reached #1 on iTunes’ list of most-downloaded folk albums in eight countries. The single “World Spins Madly On” from that album hit #1 on iTunes’ US folk song charts. In 2007, the band collaborated with Mandy Moore, writing and playing on her new album, Wild Hope. The Weepies’ recorded their next album at home, with the aid of fellow musicians and friends; Hideaway was released in April 2008 by Nettwerk Records.
Songs from Say I Am You have been featured on many popular TV shows, including Grey’s Anatomy, Everwood, One Tree Hill, Scrubs, The Riches, How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl, GRΣΣK, Kyle XY, and Dirty Sexy Money, the last of which involved The Weepies into one of the show’s subplots. They have also been featured in the Sex and the City Movie. Other supporting members who have recorded and toured with The Weepies include Meghan Toohey on keyboards and electric guitar.

Review of my songs from “The Weepies”

Take it From Me
This was the first track I heard from the Weepies and also one of my favorite tracks of the album. Though I also heard this track when I was watching Kyle XY (Second Season). I had to laugh because when I heard it in the car the next day I heard it on the show ^.^
Take it From Me is a great way to start the album, the guitars and the voice of the woman really soothes you. I just love the track because it’s kinda sweet and fits perfectly for a laidback morning.

Gotta Have You
This is my favorite song of the album (together with; Nobody Knows Me at All). It’s laidback, bittersweet and the song gives you a relaxed feeling. The vocals are suberb and you will instantly love it not only because it’s that good but also because you can sing along with it (and sometimes it will happen without you knowing it). The track begins with a guitar solo and smoothly other instruments begin to play. This is a perfect track when you just want to unwind or let everything out of your system. Though the best piece of the song are the bridges and the verses

Painting by Chagall
At first I didn’t pay attention to this song but slowly it grew on me and now it’s one of my favorite songs. (lady) sings perfectly in this song, I really love her voice on this album. What keeps me addicted to this song is the vocals and that it just makes you so relaxed. The lyrics are cute and the instruments in the song makes it a little jem that gets caught in your vision by it’s simplistic sound and when you star to get into it you will really love it

Nobody Know me At All
This track is perfect. Download it now! Though the song is short, the message and the lyrics are good and really reflect on me. Again the vocals of (lady) make this song complete. Nobody Knows me at All is a true masterpiece from The Weepies

Not Your Year
When I first heard this song I had to laugh because it was a perfect song for the year 2007. It was a trubelent year and it taught me alot though, many things happend and almost none of it was good. But this song really makes me look back and be happy on the things I have right now. The vocals of (Lady) really are great. The melody really makes the song get stuck in your head. It will also make you sing along eventually

though the entire album is good, these songs are my favorite and I had to write something about them because they really are good and precious to me ^.^. You can download the entire album “Say I Am You” below
